Eco-friendly luxury accommodation
Sustainability at Losari Retreat
At Losari Retreat, we believe that luxury and sustainability can go hand in hand. As a family-owned and operated retreat set on 66 acres of natural bushland, pasture and gardens in Margaret River, we recognise our responsibility to care for the environment, support our local community, and preserve the beauty of this region for future generations.
The World Tourism Organisation defines sustainable tourism as:
"Tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment and host communities."
For us, sustainability is about making thoughtful decisions every day — from how we source our produce and manage our land, to how we reduce waste and support local businesses in the region. We are committed to continuous improvement and finding new ways to reduce our environmental footprint while providing an exceptional guest experience.
Sustainability touches almost every aspect of life at Losari Retreat. Whether it's harvesting rainwater, generating renewable energy, growing produce in our gardens, supporting local businesses or caring for our land and animals, we're always looking for ways to make a positive impact. Explore the sections below to discover how we're working towards a more sustainable future while preserving the unique experience our guests know and love.

The natural environment is at the heart of the Losari Retreat experience. From our forests and lakes to our gardens and wildlife, protecting these natural assets is a priority.
Renewable Energy
Losari Retreat operates a substantial solar energy system that helps generate renewable electricity for the property and reduces reliance on traditional energy sources.
Rainwater Collection and Use
All water used throughout the retreat is collected from rainfall and stored onsite. This water is UV filtered and supplied to our villas for drinking, cooking, bathing and everyday use.
By relying on harvested rainwater, we reduce demand on external water supplies while making the most of a valuable natural resource.
Eco Fireplaces
Our villas feature eco-fireplaces fuelled by methylated spirits. These fireplaces provide warmth and ambience without the need for timber harvesting, wood storage or the production of ash and smoke associated with traditional wood fires.
Waste Reduction and Recycling
Waste management is a shared effort between our guests and our team.
Guests are encouraged to separate recyclable items from general waste within their villas. Our team then undertakes further sorting to maximise recycling opportunities, including:
Separating bottles and cans for collection through Containers for Change.
Sorting recyclable materials into dedicated recycling streams.
Feeding suitable food scraps to our chickens.
Composting and reusing organic matter where possible.
Minimising waste sent to landfill.
We are committed to continually improving our waste management systems and reducing unnecessary consumption wherever possible

We are passionate about supporting local businesses, producers and suppliers throughout the Margaret River region.
Sourcing Local Produce
Our gourmet hampers feature a range of locally sourced products, allowing guests to experience the flavours of the region while supporting local farmers, producers and small businesses.
Many of the products featured in our villas are also sourced from local businesses, helping to strengthen our regional economy and reduce transport-related emissions.
Supporting Local Tourism
We proudly collaborate with local wineries, tour operators, chefs, and experience partners, creating opportunities for visitors to discover the best of Margaret River while supporting other small businesses within our community.

Our property management practices are designed to improve soil health, support biodiversity and maintain productive pastures.
Growing Our Own Produce
One of the most rewarding parts of life at Losari Retreat is sharing the produce grown on our property.
Our extensive kitchen garden produces a variety of seasonal fruits, vegetables and herbs throughout the year, while our chickens provide fresh eggs.
Where seasonal availability allows, guests are encouraged to enjoy produce harvested during their stay and our private villa chef will often use seasonal produce in the meals prepared for guests.
Responsible Grazing
We carefully manage livestock numbers and utilise rotational grazing practices to prevent overgrazing and encourage healthy regeneration.
Hay Production
Paddocks are harvested for hay, which is then used to feed livestock on the property. This reduces reliance on externally sourced feed while supporting efficient land management.
Natural Pest Management
Our resident guinea fowls assist with natural pest control across the property, helping reduce pest populations and limit the need for chemical interventions.
Fire Management
Protecting the local environment from bushfire risk is an important part of responsible land stewardship.
Our fire management practices include:
Maintaining firebreaks throughout the property.
Strategic vegetation management.
Ongoing tree maintenance and hazard reduction.
Fire-fighting equipment and water infrastructure are positioned around the property.
Our Sustainability Commitment
As part of our commitment to sustainable tourism, we have developed a Tourism Emissions Reduction Plan to guide our ongoing efforts to reduce our environmental impact.
Protecting Our Environment
We actively care for our 66-acre property through native plantings, habitat protection and sustainable land management practices..
Reducing our footprint
Solar energy, rainwater harvesting, refillable guest amenities and waste reduction initiatives help minimise our environmental impact
